Applying for or appealing a denied request to receive Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) can feel intimidating and confusing. There are a number of steps to successfully negotiate, and often your ability to support yourself or your family hangs in the balance.
Gatewood & Cornaghie provides counsel and representation on Social Security and other benefit system matters delivered by local, responsive attorneys who care about you and your future. Our attorneys can help you better understand how the system works and the best legal strategies for obtaining the benefits you are seeking. Our firm is small by design; you will not be handed off to another attorney here or treated like a case number. We strive to evaluate your unique circumstances and work with you to produce the best possible results.
Attorneys Chris Cornaghie and Erica Gatewood, the principals of Gatewood & Cornaghie , focus the firm’s practice squarely on SSDI and other legal issues related to Social Security, such as overpayment and termination of benefits. Chris draws upon more than 40 years of legal practice, including six years serving as an attorney for the Social Security Administration. He is a Certified Social Security Disability Advocate by the National Board of Legal Specialty of the American Bar Association and by the State of Tennessee. He is also active in the National Organization of Social Security Claims Representatives and has served as a representative on their board of directors.
Erica has been a practicing attorney for more than 20 years. Social Security work is personal for her. Her first case was for a close relative who had been previously denied benefits. She experienced, firsthand, the emotional rollercoaster that Social Security claimants and their families encounter. This experience (and others) ignited a passion for her clients and a commitment to ensure each case is presented in a manner that provides the best chance to prevail. She, too, is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives, as well as the Ben F. Jones Chapter of the National Bar Association.
In addition to assisting clients with Social Security-related issues, we can help with legal matters related to the Railroad Retirement and Federal Worker’s Compensation systems, and private long-term disability (LTD) plans offered under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
